About Dr Amelia Ryan
Dr Amelia Ryan is a gynaecologist and obstetrician in Auckland, New Zealand. She holds a public appointment in the Endometriosis unit at Te Whatu Ora/Health New Zealand Waitemata and as a gynaecologist at Advanced Gynaecology Auckland.
Amelia attended the University of Otago to complete her medical degree. She moved to Melbourne, Australia to embark on specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital, completing advanced training in advanced laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) and the management of endometriosis at the Royal Women’s and Epworth Freemasons Hospital. She also spent time in the reproductive medicine/fertility unit at the Royal Women’s Hospital.
In 2019, Amelia moved home to New Zealand to take up a senior medical position at Te Whatu Ora/Health New Zealand Waitemata. Amelia works in the Endometriosis/Pelvic Pain team and performs surgery at North Shore Hospital. Alongside her clinical work, she is a mentor and educator for junior doctors who are currently training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, teaching future gynaecologists the skills of the trade. She has a keen interest in Quality and Safety – an area of medicine which looks at the safety and constant improvement of our medical systems.
Amelia sees private gynaecology patients at Advanced Gynaecology Auckland (AGA). Her true career passion is the management of patients with complex pelvic pain and endometriosis. She believes in comprehensive education, multidisciplinary care and timely, appropriate surgery to manage this difficult and debilitating condition. Amelia is a member of the Endometriosis NZ Clinical Advisory Committee and has recently published an article in a peer reviewed journal in pelvic pain and central sensitivity. Amelia performs surgery at Ascot Hospital, Brightside Hospital and Columba at Ascot, and is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross.
In balance to her busy career life, Amelia is married and together they have 3 young children. Her spare time is spent wrangling her family and an enormous dog.
